Position Description:

Under general direction of the Director of Planning and Zoning, coordinates development applications, site plan reviews, collects and analyzes planning data; assists in preparing planning studies and reports; assists in policy analysis and formulation; assists in updating the City of Fishers comprehensive plan; maintains data files for an automated geographic information system; reviews development applications and prepares staff reports for zone changes, code amendments and variances under the direction of the Director. Conducts field evaluations and inspections/assessments

Examples of Duties

  • Reviews building permit plans for compliance with applicable zoning, subdivisions, landscaping, and other development codes.
  • Prepares applications, provides necessary documentation and coordination for special projects.
  • Assists the Director in reviewing and updating all of the City of Fishers land use regulations.
  • Assists the Director in streamlining the development process and working with developers and citizens as they go through the development review process in obtaining project approval.
  • Assists in the maintenance and updating of planning data and geographic information systems as it relates to planning and physical development.
  • Prepares staff review memos, under the direction of the Director for variances, rezoning, and planned unit development proposals for various boards and committees.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
  • Acts as liaison between community groups, government agencies, and various city departments in developing land use and transportation plans
  • Attends evening meetings as needed.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Urban, Regional, or Municipal Planning, Geography, or related field and three (3) years of experience performing planning duties including policy and code review, analysis, and evaluation, and preparation of detailed reports; prefer responsibility for leading projects or staff in a municipal planning environment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, planning officials and the general public. Computer software skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint, GIS and Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop.
