Fishers Announces Industry-Leading IoT Lab for Innovation

FISHERS, IN – Joined by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and top tech leaders and higher education partners, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness announced today the formation of the Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers. The new facility will be designed to bring each component of the emerging tech sector of Internet of Things (IoT) together as a lab for innovation and collaboration for the rapidly expanding industry, anticipated to become a $3 trillion industry by 2025 (Machina Research).

John Wechsler, Founder and CEO of Launch Fishers, is leading the initiative that includes founding members: ClearObject (formerly CloudOne) and Indiana University. Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers will be located at 9059 Technology Drive, in 24,562 square feet of flex space in the heart of Fishers’ certified tech park.

“Connected devices are prevalent in our daily lives from wearable fitness bands to self-driving cars. With the rapid speed of innovation in this sector, the Internet of Things provides the greatest threat to our current economy, but it also provides the greatest opportunity for our future,” said Mayor Scott Fadness. “There is no other place where all four components of IoT can come together to collaborate and innovate. With John Wechsler’s leadership, Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers and its members will help redefine what the next-generation economy looks like in Fishers.”

IoT Lab-Fishers will allow member companies to take up residence, permanently or temporarily, in the Lab with annual memberships beginning at $1,000. The facility will be dedicated to bringing together the four key components to IoT solutions: ideation, cloud data, edge hardware, and development. Support for industry-driven innovation initiatives that fuel growth in strategic Indiana sectors like IoT is a key focus area of Governor Holcomb’s Next Level Legislative Agenda, which proposes investing $1 billion over the next 10 years to make Indiana a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Indiana’s economy is built on our proven ability to grow things, make things, and move things. Looking ahead, we also want our state to be known as a place for creativity and innovation,” Governor Eric J. Holcomb said. “To maintain our position as a leader in the new economy, IoT must be part of our strategy for the next generation of Hoosiers, and I commend all those who worked to make bring this high-tech facility to Fishers.”

One of the unique components of Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers is that non-member businesses will be able to bring their IoT questions to the Lab for members to take on and solve.
“We know good things happen when we bring innovators together. Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers will be a sandbox for discovery and development,” said John Wechsler, Founder of Launch Fishers. “While this is the first IoT Lab in the state, our hope is that it is not the last. We have incredible universities, talent and entrepreneurs in Indiana. With these ingredients, the Indiana IoT Lab concept has the potential to unlock a new sector in Indiana.”

ClearObject, Inc. Magazine’s fastest-growing IT company in Indiana for 2014, 2015 and 2016, announced it is growing its workforce in Indiana yet again in conjunction with the IoT Lab-Fishers.

"As a leading systems innovator for the Internet of Things, ClearObject has been fortunate to see the Internet of Things early and we are excited to share what we already know with other companies and partners in this new Internet of Things lab,” said John McDonald, CEO of ClearObject. “To show our commitment to the Internet of Things innovation in the state of Indiana and the Midwest as a whole, we intend to open a second ClearObject facility within the Fishers IoT Lab to be our technology and project services center, while growing our employee base in Indiana by 15% in 2017. This commitment will bring highly-skilled tech talent to Indiana in order to provide development, cloud, ideation and edge services to help companies connect their ideas to the Internet of Things and make their IoT solutions a reality.”

Indiana University joins the Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers as a founding partner.
“The Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers allows us to combine strengths as far as those individuals who are working on the technologies now in an applied sense, as well as those back at the University who are working in the lab,” said Bill Stephan, Vice President for Engagement at Indiana University.

The Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers is scheduled to open Summer 2017. Those interested in learning more can visit http://www.indianaiot.com/.
