Fishers Honored as 2017 Playful City USA Community

City celebrates 9 years of putting the needs of kids and families first as part of Playful City USA program

FISHERS, IN – National non-profit KaBOOM! is honoring Fishers with a 2017 Playful City USA designation for the ninth time. Playful City USA honors cities and towns across the country for putting the needs of families first so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills. These communities are transforming ordinary places into playful spaces and using play as a solution to the challenges facing their residents.

The 2017 Playful City USA recognition includes 258 communities across the United States. The City of Fishers is the only municipality in Hamilton County to be nominated this year, and the city is excited to continue its work to provide exceptional playful spaces for the area.

Fishers Parks and Recreation is striving to incorporate play into a way of life for local children and families. From the new Second Nature program that integrates nature exploration into everyday life to the city’s innovative parks and multi-use trails, the City of Fishers recognizes the importance of play in the development of healthy communities.

“We are ecstatic to be nominated as Playful City USA for the 9th year in a row. Fishers is proud to provide an innovative way for children and families to unplug and play in our vibrant community” said Tony Elliot, Director of Fishers Parks and Recreation.

“We are thrilled to recognize Fishers for putting kids first,” said KaBOOM! CEO James Siegal. “The well-being of our communities starts with the well-being of our kids, and play is critical for them to thrive. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that all kids get the childhood they deserve filled with play.”
