Fishers has streamlined processes for all types of construction. Below are three categories which will guide you through the construction review and approval process. Please note that if your site is not zoned for your proposed use, you will need to rezone before applying for any type of construction. If you do not know your zoning, please see our online zoning map. *Disclaimer: some projects or construction activity may need additional reviews and approvals. 

Residential Structure

  • Build a new structure on an existing lot or build an addition to an existing structure. This type of construction goes through the building permit process.
  • Build a new home, a new addition to my home, a deck, a pool, a new accessory structure (ie. detached garage, mini barn, gazebo, etc), or a driveway.

Residential Subdivision
  • Start building a subdivision, which consisting of dividing property into multiple lots for the development of homes. Fishers and the State of Indiana require the subdivision of property to go through the platting and subdivision improvement process.

Commercial / Industrial Development
  • Remodel an existing commercial structure.
  • Build an addition to a commercial structure or start a commercial development which incorporates a single or multiple commercial lots or buildings. This type of construction goes through the Improvement Location Permit process.
