March kicks off with a proclamation of Fishers Disability Awareness Month by Mayor Scott Fadness, followed by a one-hour disability etiquette presentation by the Joseph Maley Foundation, entitled “The Power of Words: People First Language-2017.” Presenters include: Julie Friedman, Director of the Joseph Maley Foundation disABILITY Awareness Program, Tiffany Porter, board member, and Vivian Maley, founder of the Joseph Maley Foundation.
The Joseph Maley Foundation is a local nonprofit established in 2008 with the mission “Serving children of all abilities.” The foundation has seven programs that empower children to lead with compassion, acceptance and respect.
Following the presentation, the winner of the ADA Art Pole Banner contest will be announced. The $500 prize will be awarded by the Fishers Arts Council and Title Sponsor, Superior Van and Mobility. This event is open to city staff and the public. Light refreshments will be served courtesy of Kroger.
