Senior Laborer - Traffic Technician (Paint & Signs)

Salary Range: $17.34 - $20.81 Hourly

Position Description
Are you self-motivated problem solver whose passions are efficiencies and organization, then this may be the position for you. The Fishers Department of Public Works Street Maintenance Division is seeking candidates with a technical background and the ability to fabricate, maintain, and install City signs and road markings per the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" (MUTCD). The Traffic Technician (Paint and Signs) is responsible for scheduling, fabrication, installation and communicating all processes related to sign and pavement markings. As a part of this role, detailed knowledge and experience using plotters, printers, and pavement marking equipment is required.

Examples of Duties
  • Setup and layout of pavement markings
  • Fabrication and install of decorative and regulatory signage
  • Auditing inventory – signs and material 
  • Documentation of work orders and preventive maintenance tasks in EAM
  • Knowledge and research of MUTCD guidelines, ADA policies, and City signage requirements
  • Perform maintenance on existing signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices
  • Responsible for operating and maintaining automated traffic paint truck, and handheld/operated striping devices
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of an electronic reflectometer
  • Assists in snow removal efforts when needed

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED; MS Office proficiency including Excel, Word, Outlook, with proven skills creating and manipulating Excel spreadsheets; Six months to one year experience in traffic maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training; Able to operate equipment, including hand tools, paint machinery, pickup truck, core bore machine, and gas auger machine; Demonstrate good critical thinking and reasoning skills; Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility in managing multiple priorities; Excellent attention to detail and possess strong interpersonal skills; Able to perform effectively with minimal supervision.

Supplemental Information
Occasional evening, weekend and holiday work is required. Overtime is expected.
