(Fishers, Indiana) - The 41st session of the Fishers Police Department Citizens Academy is now accepting applications.  The Citizens Academy will be held Wednesday nights from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Fishers Police Department.  The Academy is open to Fishers residents ages 16 and older. This session will begin on Wednesday, August 16 and graduation will take place on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.   Class size is limited to 25.

The purpose of the academy is to provide participants with an opportunity to better understand the role of police officers and, more specifically, to strengthen the relationship between the officers of the Fishers Police Department and the community.  Officers will provide an overview of their roles and responsibilities and insight into some of the specialized units within FPD.  Topics will include recruiting and hiring, traffic stops, how the K-9 Unit works within the agency, the role of the Fishers Dive Team, the role of the Emergency Response Team, how Crime Scene Investigators process scenes, and much more. Attendees will have some classroom instruction and practical role play training.

Each applicant is subject to a screening process; advanced registration is required.  Walk-ins will not be accepted.  Begin the registration process by submitting interest at this link, https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/fa3d53a46e5b439ebaa54315ced540e2
