FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 4, 2015
The Fishers Police Department investigated an early morning shooting that took place at the Cumberland Crossing Apartment Complex (121st Street east of Cumberland Road).
Shortly after 7:00am this morning St. Vincent Northeast Hospital contacted police after a 31 year-old female, suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her lower leg, checked herself into the Emergency Room. Hospital staff advised the female’s boyfriend was standing by in the waiting room. Upon their arrival officers met with the boyfriend and he admitted to accidentally shooting his girlfriend. The male was transported to the Fishers Police Department where he met with Investigators and provided a detailed statement.
The victim told officers the shooting occurred in the couple’s apartment on Tollhouse Way. When officers arrived at the apartment they located four unattended children. The children were unharmed and arrangements were made for them to stay with relatives. Investigators and Evidence Technicians arrived at the apartment complex to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.
After speaking with the victim, the suspect, additional witnesses, and a thorough examination of the physical evidence Investigators determined the suspect accidentally shot the victim. Investigators did, however develop probable cause to believe the male committed three criminal offenses.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail without incident.
