[ARCHIVED] Death Investigation

The Fishers Police Department is investigating the discovery of a body found inside a vehicle submerged in Geist Reservoir. The discovery was made on Sunday evening after a resident informed police of tire tracks leading into a northwest section of the reservoir.
Police officers, volunteers, and other members of the community have been searching for 18 year-old Peyton Riekhof since she went missing during the early morning hours of July 18th. On Sunday evening, after an hour of searching the waters, Rescue Divers with the Fishers Police Department and Fishers Fire Department located Riekhof’s Mercury Mariner approximately 50 yards from the shore under eight feet of water. Divers also confirmed the vehicle contained a body.
The Hamilton County Coroner was contacted and arrived at the scene. Once the vehicle was brought onto shore, the body was removed, and transported to Riverview Hospital. The autopsy was conducted on Monday afternoon. The Hamilton County Coroner preliminarily identified the body as Peyton Riekhof. It was also determined that Peyton died of drowning.
Hamilton Southeastern Schools will provide Grief Counselors and Clergy Members for friends, fellow classmates, and staff members. The Counselors will be available at Hamilton Southeastern High School from 8am-2pm for the remainder of this week. The Clergy will be placed on stand-by and called upon request.
The Town of Fishers and the Fishers Police Department would like to express our appreciation to the community volunteers for their help and support during the search for Peyton.
