[ARCHIVED] Operation Indy Commute – I-69 Update

FISHERS, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors are planning temporary traffic changes and overnight lane restrictions this week as part of Operation Indy Commute – I-69.

Exit 205 Interchange Improvements:
Milestone Contractors plans alternating lane restrictions on northbound I-69 and the northbound exit lanes to 116th Street and State Road 37. With the exception of temporary traffic stops of up to 20 minutes each after midnight, at least one lane will remain open on I-69 and the exit ramps. All restrictions will end by 5 a.m.

Wednesday night, Milestone plans to restrict the right lane of southbound I-69 from north of S.R. 37 to south of 116th Street at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday. Traffic on southbound S.R. 37 will be shifted to a temporary configuration to merge onto I-69 north of 116th Street. S.R. 37 access to 116th Street will remain open.

Milestone is the INDOT contractor for the $18 million interchange improvement contract at I-69 Exit 205. Northbound improvements are now open to traffic, including two lanes to exit to 116th Street and a new two-lane flyover to S.R. 37. A new ramp from 116th Street eliminates the previous weaving pattern between traffic exiting to S.R. 37 and traffic entering northbound I-69.

Improvements to the southbound side of the interchange are underway. S.R. 37 is currently restricted to a single lane between 126th Street and I-69. The southbound I-69 exit to 116th Street closed July 26 for up to 90 days. Southbound improvements include a new bridge to carry S.R. 37 over the I-69 exit to 116th Street, which eliminates weaving. The interchange will be reconfigured to allow two lanes to exit to 116th Street and two lanes to enter southbound I-69 from S.R. 37. All improvements are expected to be complete this year.

I-69 Added Travel Lanes:
Rieth-Riley Construction, the INDOT contractor for the $11 million added travel lanes contract, plans to restrict the left lane of northbound and southbound I-69 between I-465 and 116th Street each night through Friday night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Rieth-Riley is constructing an additional travel lane along southbound I-69 between 116th Street and I-465. Auxiliary lanes will be built to connect northbound and southbound interchange ramps between 116th, 96th and 82nd streets. The added lanes are expected to be open to traffic this year.
