Pet lovers, music lovers and their dogs are invited to join the Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) in celebrating “Dog Day Afternoon featuring Woofstock” on Saturday, August 24th at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater (behind Town Hall off of 116th Street). The sixth annual Dog Day Afternoon featuring Woofstock is an afternoon of fun designed for the entire family (canines included) to enjoy.
The festival is from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Over 100 vendors will be set up featuring pet products, jewelry and art, massages for humans and their dogs, paw painting, delicious food and more.
The Starbucks “Parade of Paws” Dog Walk kicks off the event next to the amphitheater stage with a unified walk around the Nickel Plate District at 1:30 p.m. (walk registration starts at 12:45 p.m.) The walk will be lead by Fishers Fire Chief Steve Orusa and his 3 dogs including Survivor Program dog Dante they recently adopted from the shelter. The Parade of Paws is an important fundraising aspect to the event where participants can raise money by setting up an online fundraising page featuring their pet or a shelter animal in need. Anyone of any age can participate whether they attend the dog walk or not. All funds raised will go to the shelter’s Survivor Program which makes it possible for HSHC to save the lives of animals arriving with life threatening injuries or illnesses. Any individual raising $1,000 or more will receive a $150 gift card to The Walking Company, and awards will be given out to top fundraisers (visitwww.DDAWoofstock.com for more info).
- Live music on the Don Hinds Ford Woofstock Stage all day long – including The Jester Kings, 10th of Never, Born Again Floozies, Whitney Erin and Naptown Boogie
- Kids activities from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Silly Safari Kids Tent will include performances by Silly Safari & their exotic pets, a Fishers K9 Cop Demonstration, face painting, a caricaturist and more.
“This is an exciting opportunity to bring pet lovers together while also promoting the welfare of companion animals in Hamilton County. We are Hamilton County’s one and only Humane Society/Animal Control Facility,” said Rebecca Stevens, Executive Director of the Humane Society for Hamilton County, “so we chose to celebrate in Fishers this year as we work to educate the entire Hamilton County community about the services and programs we offer, as well as our critical need for their support.”
The event is open to the public and dogs are welcome. Admission is $5 per person with kids 10 and under free as well as military service personnel who attend with a military I.D. Attendees who bring their pets are fully responsible for the behavior of their pets and will be required to sign an Event Registration and Release Form. All pets must be current on vaccinations and on-leash at all times. Entry into the event will be expedited by downloading the release form from the event website in advance.
